Cole Butchers the Competition
Oxford, ME - Despite not one but two motor changes, Nova Scotia's Cole Butcher #53 put on a clinic in the Spencer Group Paving 150 at Oxford on May 7th 2022. Butcher led the last 61 laps after passing defending champion PASS North Johnny Clark #54 for the top spot after running in the top three the entire event.

41 Super Late Models were on the property and were divvied up into four heat races, Evan Hallstrom #1vt and Scott McDaniel #14 won the first two heat races and took the pole while Cole Butcher took home the third heat race victory with Joey Pole #4nh winning heat number four.

Thirteen cars were forced to run a consolation race where Garrett Hall #94 proved to be the best of the cars unable to qualify from the heats. After it was all said and done, 39 of the top Super Late Models in the country were set to take the green.

Evan Hallstrom in the 1vt took off to the early lead before disaster struck for Gary Drew in the #71. Contact with another car sent him around, and Kyle Salemi #63 made hard contact to the drivers door of Drew's machine. While both drivers were okay, both would be retired from the event. The field would resume but only for a minute as on lap eight the second caution would fly. This time for Dennis Spencer Jr. #12 the defending PASS 150 Champion from last season. Corey Bubar #12x and Ivan Kaffel #78 were also involved. All but Kaffel were able to soldier on.

The ensuing restart saw Cole Butcher fly to the point. Leading a few laps before Johnny Clarks #54 motored around the top side taking over the lead on lap 17. 23 laps later the leaders caught traffic and started putting multiple cars down a lap.

Pole sitter Evan Hallstrom was soon one of those to lose a lap right before a lap 62 caution for a Dan Winter #81 spin. Halstrom would get the lucky dog but three laps later would fall out of the race due to handling issues. Clark would hold the lead again as Dave Farrington Jr. #23, Joey Pole #4nh and Max Cookson #39 had an exciting three wide battle for the 10th spot. Max Cookson, already a Saturday OCS winner at Oxford this year, ran around in this position all day.

In an overall impressive run, Nick Sweet had rebounded from a trip to pit road before the inception of the race with a car smoking by running his famous top groove. Dennis Spencer Jr. worked his way back to the top 15 after his early race mishap.

On lap number 85 birthday boy Ben Rowe lost a lap to the leader Johnny Clark who was starting to feel pressure from Cole Butcher, DJ Shaw #60, Curtis Gerry #7g, and Gabe Brown #50b. Having a solid day, Gabe Brown  was by far the most popular driver in the grandstands as his number 50 team bused in a group of kids from the Conway teen center. While ultimately Brown didn't take home a trophy, going the extra mile like that proves he is a champion on and off the track.

Cole Butcher turned up the wick on lap 89 and retook the lead from Clark. After holding off the field on lap 97 after an accident in turn one that claimed the former Beech Ridge competitors Evan Beaulieu #56, Corey Bubar #12x, Donny Colprit #16, and Travis Benjamin #7, it was all smooth sailing for Cole

Butcher was able to cut through lapped traffic and earn his second Pro All Stars Series victory and his first career win at Oxford. Clark ran second, DJ Shaw ended up third, and fourth went to Curtis Gerry. After a 19th place starting position, Brandon Barker #88 quietly wound up with another top five finish. Trevor Sanborn #29s, Gabe Brown, Kyle Desouza #1, point leader Eddie MacDonald #17ma, and Dave Farrington would round out the top ten respectively.

The PASS Super Late Models, PASS MODS and the New England Supermodified Series (NESS) will take to the high-banked quarter mile of White Mountain on Sunday May 15th at 1:00 PM. This will be the first event of the season for the NESS supermodifieds. White Mountain is one of the favorite tracks of most drivers and beloved by fans across the Northeast and Canada. Plan your trip now to see who ends up on top at the Mountain.

PASS MODS
Brandon Varney #1v led wire to wire in the PASS MODS feature, holding off top contenders Shawn Knight #25 and Garrett Lamb #38 for his first career MODS victory. Troy Morse #6 took home the fourth position and former Beech Ridge regular Danny Wear #0 finished 5th in his first PASS MODS start.

Varney is not a stranger to Oxford Plains Victory Lane but this has got to be the sweetest one yet. Making the jump to PASS MODS last season Varney had a great season with multiple podium finishes but never got to carry the checkered flag. Will he be able to do it again at White Mountain, a track that also served him well last season?

Limited Sportsman
Chris Smith #1 showed why he is a multi-time Sport Series Champion at Beech Ridge by holding off a hard-charging Rick Thompson #07 late in the race and locking up yet another victory. Thompson would end up second coming off his first career win last week, and Nick Moulton's #72 came home third. Mike Sanford and Robbie Harrison rounded out the top 5.
