SATURDAY, JUNE 1st
BUDWEISER Oxford Championship Series
SLMs, Street Stocks, Bandits, Figure 8s & Rookies
Curtis Gerry is season's first
two-time winner at OPS
Oxford, ME - Curtis Gerry of Waterboro became the first repeat winner of the Budweiser Championship Series Super Late Model season at Oxford Plains Speedway Saturday night, driving from ninth starting position to victory lane in yet another non-stop 50-lap main event.

Gerry, the 2017 Oxford 250 champion, padded his lead atop this year's championship standings in the premiere division at the historic Route 26 oval track. He finished the race 2.75-seconds ahead of Connecticut invader Ray Christian III, who had lined up in 13th position on the starting grid.

Christian spent much of the race battling local NASCAR legend and 1984 Oxford Plains Speedway champion Kelly Moore of Scarborough, making his first appearance of the season. Moore spent most of the race running the outside groove and looked strong, posting a third-place finish despite a souring powerplant.

Ivan Kaffel of Raymond led briefly en route to a fourth-place finish. Turner's Shawn Martin completed the top-five rundown. TJ Brackett of Buckfield led a good chunk of the race before dropping back in the late stages of the 50-lapper.

Kurt Hewins of Leeds won his third consecutive 30-lap Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock division main event, taking the lead away from 2017 division champion Billy Childs, Jr., also from Leeds on the event's final restart.

Reigning Street Stock champion and current points leader Matt Dufault of Turner was closest to Hewins under the checkered flag. Childs, who claimed Hewins jumped the restart, ended up with the third-place trophy. Norway's Mark Turner was fourth across the finish line, followed by Oxford's Skip Stanley.

Defending Bandits division champion Dustin Salley of Mechanic Falls stayed on top of the championship standings by racing to his third 20-lap victory of the year in the Bandits division's main event. Turner's Tyler Green led most of the race and ended up with runner-up honors. Hometown racer Chad Wills was third under the checkered flag, followed by the previous week's winner Alex Mowatt of Norway. The Tornado, Travis Verrill of South Paris, rounded out the top five.

Larry Lizotte of Poland just held off Oxford's Chachy Hall in the 20-lap Figure 8 race. Lizotte broke a tie with Hall atop the championship standings second win of the season. Minot's Eric Hodgkins drove Kyle Klgore's machine to a third-place finish, ahead of Oxford's Kyle Glover and Dale Lawrence of Minot.

Brady Childs of Leeds won for the fourth time this season after an outstanding, race-long battle with runner-up Owen Stuart of Naples in the 15-lap Rookie division feature race. Norway's Maddy Herrick earned a third-place trophy on her 12th birthday.

Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models race 150 laps to top a special racing card to be presented on Sunday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. PASS Mods and Legends Cars will also compete.

The Budweiser Championship Series Super Late Models, Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stocks, Bandits, Figure 8s and Rookies are in action next on Saturday night, June 8.
