Cookson Captures His First
SLM Win
on
Opening Day at Oxford Plains |
Max Cookson of Pittsfield
made his debut in a Super Late Model during opening at
of Oxford Championship Series and managed to lead all 50
laps of the RB Performance Super Late Models to get his
first win in the division. Opening day had 2 other first
time winners in their prospective divisions but the
drivers were not unfamiliar to victory lane.
Nick
Wilson of Hebron won his first Cooley's Commercial Tires
Mad Bombers feature of the season. Wilson won 2021
rookie of the year in the now defunct Bandits division
and made the jump to a full size car this year. Wilson
started on pole and led all 20 laps of the feature. Mike
Dekoning picked up 2nd while Cam Richards Jr. of South
Paris took home 3rd.
Jeremy Turner of South Paris
won in the ATA Piping Rookies feature. Turner took the
lead on lap 5 and led the rest of the 15 lap feature.
Cody Macomber of Naples and Alexis Lundblad of North
Conway NH finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Jordan Russell of Norway captured the win in the Richard
Spaulding Roofing Street Stocks. Cam Childs started pole
and led the race until lap 27 when Russell filled a hole
making contact with Childs and taking the lead. Childs
fell out of the top 3. Joey Israelson of Saco took home
2nd place while Skip Stanley of Oxford finished in 3rd.
Larry Lizotte of Poland took the checkered in
the Aroma Joe's Figure 8s. Eric Hodgkins led 14 of the
15 laps before colliding with a car in the X. Greg
Durgin of Norway took home 2nd place with Dale Lawrence
of Minot picking up 3rd.
Charlie Young of Oxford
won the first ever Kyle Hewins Motorsports/Floor
Solutions Thunder Stocks feature. Young led all 15 laps
of the feature. Adam Stearns finished in 2nd with Tucker
Haskell rounding out the top 3.
Shawn Knight of
South Paris took home his first Kennebec Equipment
Rental PASS MODS feature. Brandon Varney took the early
lead and led until lap 9 when Knight passed him on the
outside. Knight led the rest of the 30 lap feature.
Brandon Varney of Mechanic Falls settled for 2nd with
Gary Chassion of Peru taking home 3rd place.
Frank Wear of Buxton topped the field in the DLM
Landscaping & Excavation Limiteds feature. Wear took the
early lead and led all 30 laps of the feature. Rick
Thompson Jr. of Naples battled for the lead most of the
feature before settling for 2nd place. Chris Smith of
Buxton worked his way up to pick up a 3rd place finish.
Max Cookson led all 50 laps of the Super Late Model
feature to become the first winner of the season. Kyle
Desouza of Auburn and Curtis Gerry of Waterboro finished
2nd and 3rd respectively. |
