OXFORD 250 JUST AROUND THE CORNER
WHO’S
WHO IN SLM TO FILL THE PITS |
The 41st Annual Oxford 250 is
quickly coming upon us on July 20th, and the excitement
and buzz about the event is at an all time high. With
almost fifty cars pre-entered for the mega event, and
close to seventy Super Late Models expected, the entry
list reads like a Who’s Who in the racing world.
This year’s edition will feature a strong contingent
from the PASS South Series as several teams will head
north to try and capture the Oxford 250 winner’s trophy.
Leading the way will be Preston Peltier from Concord,
North Carolina. Peltier has numerous PASS South
victories, and is always a threat to win the big events.
Tyler Dippel from Walkill, New York has picked up
victories in 2014 down south and he is ready for the
challenge. Tate Fogleman will be returning to the Oxford
250 for the second consecutive year. Recent PASS South
winner, Daniel Hemric has thrown his hat into the ring,
as well as Derek Kneeland, and don’t forget two time
NASCAR Sprint Cup winner, Steve Park will be aboard the
potent Dickie Woodman entry.
The Canadian
contingent will be lead by Karl Allard from St.
Felicien, Quebec. Allard is always a contender when he
enters a race at OPS. Fellow Canadians Kevin Roberge and
Matt Matheson are expected to compete as well.
Travis Benjamin will be out to make it two Oxford 250
wins in a row, as he is the favorite heading into the
race. Johnny Clark has rebounded nicely in 2014, and now
that Joey Doiron has picked up his first win of the
season, he too will be a good bet to put on a
competitive show. One driver that can never be counted
out is Mike Rowe as he’ll be looking for his
unprecedented fourth Oxford 250 winner’s trophy. Rowe
has also had a solid PASS North season. The winningest
driver in 2014 on the PASS Series, DJ Shaw will bring
the potent #60 with high hopes of collecting his first
250 win, and of course you can never count out Ben Rowe,
or recent ARCA winner, Austin Theriault.
The
Oxford weekly Pro Late Model teams will be out in force
as the Brackett family, Tim, TJ and Vanna will all be in
competition. Point leader Shawn Martin has been on a
roll as of late as has Jeremy Davis, who is coming off a
Granite State Pro Stock Series victory at Star Speedway
recently.
This definitely will be one of the most
competitive field of cars that the Oxford 250 has seen
in quite some time. There will also be plenty of free
camping as the campground opens up Monday, July 14th.

NORTHEAST LEGEND STEVE
PARK
ENTERS 2014 OXFORD 250 |
The 2014 edition of the Oxford 250 just received the entry blank
from the legendary Steve Park who will be bringing his G Body
Parts, Sunoco, Super Late Model to compete in this year’s mega
event at Oxford Plains Speedway. Park, a two time Sprint Cup
Series winner became the 45th entrant for the race scheduled for
Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2pm.
“I have always wanted to
compete in the Oxford 250, stated Park. This is one of the most
prestigious racing events in the Northeast, and to be a part of
it in 2014 really excites me. I used to attend this race with my
dad when I was younger, and I always hoped to drive in this
event some time during my life, and now thanks to G Body Parts,
Sunoco, New England Racing Fuel and car owner Dickie Woodman, we
will be there attempting to add an Oxford 250 win to my resume.
I am looking forward to coming up to the State of Maine a little
bit early to enjoy what the Oxford area has to offer. Some of my
great friends and supporters from Key Parts have also purchased
a suite for the Oxford 250 weekend, and I plan on spending a lot
of time meeting and greeting their Key Parts family. I haven’t
felt this excited in a long time, it’s going to be a great
experience.”
New England Race Fuels, John Holland is very
excited that they were able to help pull this deal together with
Sunoco to support Steve Park and the Dickie Woodman team at the
Oxford 250. Holland said this about the situation, “We are very
proud to be a part of helping Steve Park return to the Northeast
to race at the Oxford 250. Everyone knows that Sunoco is a major
player in the motorsports arena, and they are very excited about
Steve Park once again racing up north. Steve is a great
spokesman for the sport, and we love his New England racing
heritage. He has worked hard all his life to be the best racer
he could be, including a pair of Sprint Cup wins, and now we
have the opportunity to help support his Oxford 250 efforts in
2014. This support fits perfectly in Sunoco’s racing plans.”
PASS President, Tom Mayberry is also excited about Park
coming to the Oxford 250. “It’s always great to have a driver
with the credentials of Steve Park enter your race, but this one
is extra special as he is a grassroots racer who paid his dues
here in the Northeast. He has raced everything from Go-karts to
Sprint Cup Cars and has been successful in everything he has
competed in, and has never forgotten where he came from. I am
extremely proud to add Steve’s name to the entry list of the
Oxford 250.”
The 41st edition of the Oxford 250 will take
place on Sunday, July 20th at 2pm featuring 250 green flag laps
of racing for the ultra fast Super Late Models. A $1,000 to win
PASS Mod race will also highlight the card. Oxford 250 weekend
begins on Friday night, July 18th with the Sun Journal hosting
the PASS Mods, PASS Sportsman, and several support classes in
action. Then a giant night awaits race fans on Saturday night as
Dunkin’ Donuts presents the NEMA Midgets & NEMA Lites, as well
as Round #2 of the Dave’s Small Engine Repair, PASS Northeast
Late Model Series. Several other divisions will see action as
well.

Rookie Dippel Taking PASS National Points Lead
To 41st Annual Oxford 250 |
NAPLES, ME (July 17) – Just over a year ago, Tyler Dippel had
virtually no asphalt racing experience. On Sunday, the Wallkill,
NY rookie will head into the 41st Annual Oxford 250 with the
points lead in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model
National Championship standings.
At just 14-years-old,
Dippel is one of the top young prospects in short track racing,
not only on asphalt, but also on dirt. Dippel cut his teeth
racing on the tough dirt tracks of the Northeast and has become
one of the top Small Block Modified drivers in New York,
competing at tracks such as Middletown, Accord, and Lebanon
Valley. And, he has not forgot his dirt track roots, still
competing regularly when his schedule allows.
But, it is
his experience racing on the tough PASS South Super Late Model
tour in the Carolinas and Virginia that has allowed Dippel the
opportunity to come to Oxford Plains Speedway with a virtually
guaranteed spot in the 250. By virtue of his strong runs at the
first two PASS National Series events at Greenville-Pickens and
Hickory in the spring, Dippel has the points as he prepares for
his first Oxford 250.
“I’m really excited, the 250 is
probably the biggest race I’ve ever ran and I’m really looking
forward to it,” said Dippel. “It’s closer to home, I’m looking
forward to having pit stops, and like I said, it’s the biggest
race I’ve ran so far.”
Unlike the shorter races he was
accustomed to on dirt, Dippel believes his experience racing 125
to 150 lap PASS South races will prepare him for the test the
Oxford 250 is so famous for. Dippel currently sits fourth in
PASS South Super Late Model points, leading laps at the
prestigious Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory and finishing in the top
five three times so far this season.
“The PASS South
races have helped me a lot as far as learning how to save my
stuff and I think we’re getting there and are prepared for the
250,” said Dippel. “Crew Chief Buggy [Pletcher] always has a
pretty good car for that race.” |

JOHNNY CLARK & DANIEL HEMRIC |
Southern Stars Prep For
Return
To 41st Annual Oxford 250 |
NAPLES, ME (June 10) – With a little less than two months before
on track activities begin for the 41st Annual Oxford 250, short
track racers from across North America are currently making
preparations for one of the biggest events of the year. Over 70
Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model teams are expected
this year to attempt to make the biggest single day event in
motorsports. And, with $25,000 going to the race winner, plus an
additional $25,000 up for grabs in lap leader bonus money,
racers will travel quite a distance to try and etch their names
in the prestigious Oxford 250 record book.
When the
Oxford 250 first began in 1974, it was commonplace to see
legendary Southern racers like Butch Lindley, Jack Ingram, Tommy
Houston, Harry Gant, Tiny Lund, and others make the trek to New
England from the Carolinas. That tradition returned in 2013 when
PASS South competitors such as Jay and Tate Fogleman, Daniel
Hemric, Kevin Powell, and Spencer Davis traveled North to
compete in their first Oxford 250. While Hemric made an
impressive run from the back to finish in the top 10, it was Jay
Fogleman who parlayed a third place finish in the Oxford 250 to
his second straight PASS National Championship.
“I always
look forward to going to the 250,” said Fogleman. “It reminds me
in a lot of ways of the way things were in the South during the
80s. The fans of the 250, those that come down from Canada, they
love racing and it’s an atmosphere that I really enjoy. The fans
up there love short track racing, they appreciate good racing,
and they always turn out for the 250.”
Another former
PASS National Champion who will be making his first trip to the
Oxford 250 in 2014 will be Preston Peltier. Peltier, who grew up
in California and then moved to North Carolina when he began
working for Hendrick Motorsports, has been one of the stalwarts
of PASS South since the series first began back in 2006. With 10
career PASS South Super Late Model wins to his credit, the
series all-time wins leader is looking forward to his first
experience at Oxford Plains.
“It’s a place we’ve never
been before and we’re really looking forward to it,” said
Peltier. “We’ve been able to race at a few other tracks in New
England similar to Oxford, so hopefully that will help. We’re
just hoping for some good luck.”
For his first trip to
the Oxford 250, Peltier will be paired with legendary car
builder Robert Hamke. The duo is going for broke bringing a
brand new motor, chassis, and body combination in the hopes of
taking home a win. Peltier believes driving the new Hamke Dodge
Challenger #74 will provide him the best opportunity to go to
victory lane.
“Most of these tracks that lack grip, you
don’t need the horsepower, so that came into play for us going
with the new motor and the Challenger body,” said Peltier. “The
body looks really cool so we thought we would give it a shot and
see what we could do with it.”
Peltier and Fogleman will
not be alone in making the trip up from the South to the Oxford
250. Tate Fogleman will again join his dad as he looks to build
on his 25th place finish from a year ago. Three-time PASS South
winner in 2014, Daniel Hemric, will once again join the Woodman
Racing team that he drove for last year to a top 10 finish.
Derek Kneeland hails from New England, but lives in North
Carolina and serves as a spotter for Kyle Larson with Chip
Ganassi Racing. Kneeland had a strong 15th place finish in 2013
and will team with Gary Crooks Racing as he looks to build on
that performance. PASS National Championship points leader Tyler
Dippel will be making his Oxford 250 debut this year. The dirt
modified racer from New York has adapted well to asphalt and
currently sits fourth in the PASS South Super Late Model
standings.
The PASS Super Late Models will not be alone
in making the 41st Annual Oxford 250 a celebration of short
track racing. A great slate of divisions is set to race starting
on Friday, July 18 with the PASS Sportsman, PASS Modifieds,
Outlaw Sportsman, Street Stocks, Rebels, Sport Trucks, Cruisers
and Ladies, plus practice for the PASS Super Late Models.
On Saturday, July 19 with the PASS Super Late Models will
get three rounds of practice followed by racing in the evening
for the PASS Northeast Late Models, NEMA Midgets, NEMA Lites,
Outlaw Sportsman, Street Stocks, Wicked Good Racers, and Classic
Lights.
On Sunday, July 20, pit gates will open bright
and early at 7 AM with a full day of on track activities
including practice and heat race action for the PASS Super Late
Models, followed by features for the PASS Modifieds, Outlaw
Series, Street Stocks, Legends, and the 41st Annual Oxford 250.
Entries are continuing to come into the Pro All Stars Series
offices and will be updated periodically leading up to the race. |

2014 PASS South Super Late Model season with a pair of victories
at Greenville-Pickens Speedway and at Dillon Motor Speedway, has
thrown his hat into the Oxford 250 battle ring. Winning back to

highly competitive PASS South Series is quite an accomplishment in
itself. Hemric will be leading a strong contingent of Southern

TIM BRACKETT FILES FIRST ENTRY
FOR 2014 OXFORD 250 |
With the 2014 edition of the Oxford 250
lurking just over the horizon on July 20, 2014, the first
entrant has filed his application for the crown jewel event.
Buckfield, Maine’s, Tim Brackett has filed the number one entry
and is very proud to be the first entrant of this year’s
edition.
“We have been in the sport of auto racing since
1978, the 52 year old racer explained. We love racing as a
family here at the Track, and always look forward to the Oxford
250. We had a great run in 2013, and can’t wait for the big race
in 2014. I finished sixth last year, and can hopefully crack at
least a top five this year!”
Brackett has a pair of OPS
championships under his belt, the 2005 Pro Stock title, and the
2010 Late Model championship, and has great family ties with
Oxford, as his son TJ won the Pro Late Model championship in
2013, and finished 14th in last year’s 250, while Tim placed
second in the final standings, and Tim’s daughter Vanna finished
third in the standings, and also was the first female to win a
premiere division feature at Oxford. The family also set a
record for the first time a family finished one, two & three in
the Track’s premiere division’s final point standings.
This year’s edition of the Oxford 250 will take place on the
July 17th to July 20th weekend. There will be a special night of
racing on Thursday, July 17th, as the schedule for that day’s
events will be announced in the near future. Friday night will
be Sun Journal Newspaper night featuring the PASS Mods, PASS
Sportsman and several other support divisions. Dunkin’ Donuts
headlines Saturday’s huge card of racing with Round #2 of the
new PASS Northeast Late Model Series going 125 laps for $4,000
to win, or the option of taking $3,000 to win and having a
guaranteed starting spot in Sunday’s Oxford 250. Joining the
PASS Northeast Late Model Series will be NEMA Midgets, The NEMA
Lites, Northeast Classic Lites Dwarf Cars, Wicked Good Vintage
Racing and support divisions. The granddaddy of them all, the
Oxford 25, headlines the giant weekend of racing as Super Late
Models from throughout the United States and Canada will
converge on Oxford Plains Speedway’s 3/8 mile speed plant for
the giant purse that will await the winner after 250 green flag
laps of racing. The day will also feature a 75 lap, $1,000 to
win PASS Mod event plus Street Stocks and a 50 lap NELCAR
Legends National Championship event. |

NEMA MIDGETS READY TO ATTACK
OPS ON 250 WEEKEND |
Oxford Plains Speedway President, Tom Mayberry is pleased to
announce that the NEMA Midgets (Northeastern Midget Association)
will be part of the giant Oxford 250 weekend, July 18th through
20th. This will mark the first time in several years that the
Midgets have appeared at Oxford.
www.nemaracing.com
The NEMA Midgets are a compact winged racecar with a very high
power to weight ratio. With up to 400 horsepower and weighing
approximately 1,000 pounds, Midgets are among the fastest cars on
oval tracks ½ mile and under. Midget racing has long provided a
pivotal role in the development of some of the nation’s finest and
most successful drivers.
Joining the NEMA Midgets will be
the NEMA LITES. The NEMA LITES are basically the same car except
they are self starting, and they have basically the same chassis,
wing package and tires, but have a limited race engine. The LITES
are built so that they can easily be converted to a full NEMA
Midget package.
The NEMA Midgets and NEMA LITES will be
competing on the Saturday, July 19th portion of the Oxford 250
weekend card. |
